Early Times Report

Jammu, June 16: The recently repaired road from Bikram Chowk to MAM College here has developed potholes within 2-weeks. “The road was dug to lay a sewerage line but was restored. Within a short span of time it has got damaged at many places putting a question mark on the quality of material that was used to construct the road,” locals told Early Times.
“The road leading from Bikram Chowk to the entrance of MAM College remained dug-up for a few months and after completion of worksit was repaired a couple of weeks back”, they added.
“Pebbles have come out beneath the macadamized portion of the road. Moreover the portion of road where the manhole covers have been fitted are elevated making the road totally uneven”, a local said, adding that “At some places, the road has caved in a little bit, making it risky for the two wheelers.”
“Time and again two wheeler riders lose balance due to uneven pathway and these potholes can lead to a fatal accident,” a shopkeeper said, adding that just outside the FCI godown, the repaired portion of road is in pathetic condition.
The shopkeeper said, “The department should have followed a proper mechanism while repairing the road but it seems that protocol has been ignored.”
He said the Road and Building Department should take cognizance of the matter and take proper action in this regard.
Executive Engineer of City division-I Rajan Gupta said, “Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) had dug up the road to lay a sewerage-pipe in the area. After completion of works, the ERA authorities have repaired the road which has got damaged at some places, while some parts are uneven.”
“I had personally taken up the matter with the Executive Engineer of UEED and had toured the area along with him. Have asked him to get the road repaired as per specifications”, Gupta added.
