Mayor visits old heritage railway station at Bikram Chowk, directs officials to prepare DPR

Jammu, June 17: Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta along with Er. Rakesh Kumar Gupta (SE UEED), Er. Ravi Salgotra with locals visited the Heritage Site of Old Railway Station at Bikram Chowk near Kala Kendra in Jammu.
Mayor assessed the existing old infrastructures which were constructed prior to Indo-Pak partition 1947, where the passengers from India as well as Pakistan travelled enroute from Bikram Chowk, Miran Sahib via R.S. Pura upto Sialkote on Pakistan Side.
He assured the citizens that this old Railway Heritage infrastructures taking off from Bikram Chowk to Suchetgarh via Miran Sahib, R.S. Pura shall be developed as a vital heritage site of Indian Nation. During the visit it was found that hugged Railway Sheds Tracks Girder, Railway Quarters, multiple huge sheds, soft water and a Huge Water filling Station still existing at site and needs to be renovated immediately.
Specific to mention that a Water Filling Station Pump/Pipe his still existing at site at Bikram Chowk with its make (All Days & amp Onions Ltd, Makers Birmingham - London in the year 1889) i.e. more than 130 years old.
This filling station was being used for filling the water in the Coal/Steam Engine and for other multiple purposes. He further stated that after the development of infrastructure in major tourist destination shall be made a fascination for tourists visiting UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
He also apprised that a large museum of related to Train Articles, equipment’s, Tools, wearing uniform by the Railway Staff, change over Railway Track, Train Wheels, Train Engine, and others shall be kept in the museum for acknowledge the replica of the time to the visitors.
Further as per the suggestions Er. Rakesh Kumar Gupta (SE UEED) that an Heritage Engine/ Train Coaches should also be put in place along with its track at Heritage site of Bikram chowk and a museum a train toy museum at R.S. Pura further the Café Bar, Restaurants/Food Courts should also be kept where tourist/visitor can enjoy the flavor and feeling of Train Restaurants.
In addition Er. Rakesh Kumar Gupta also suggested that the Wikipedia encyclosite of the history, life of Railway Staff, passengers travelling on both side prior to Indo-Pak partition should be displaced who has to make the tourist and visited feeling the old era of Railway travelling from Bikram Chowk to Sialkote.
The Mayor Jammu stated that few other infrastructure should be developed like Entrance Heritage Gate, Enquiry Office, Ticket Counter, Passengers Waiting Shed (Existing needs renovation),Railway Museum (Renovation of Existing sheds) along with Water City, Façade lights shall be installed at Bikram Chowk, R.S. Pura, Suchetgarh Heritage sites and after its development this heritage railway site will be a milestone for citizens as well as tourist due to which tourist would have longer stay. This will ultimately generate employment opportunity and boost the economy also. It would be appropriate mention that the people who are still surviving and born before partition would feel over joyed by experiencing the old era.
He narrated that he took up the matter with the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and thereof the Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Bashir Khan visited the site, including Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Raghav Langer to access the ground situation.
Chander Mohan conveyed his heartiest thanks to the Prime Minister Narender Modi. Home Minister Amit Shah who are already focussing on the development a heritage sites. Mayor also appreciated the efforts of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Ji for taking keen interest in development of UT of J& K and requested to issues necessary directions to the concerned for preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and its development on fast track to revive one of the most prestigious heritage site.
