Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, June 17: Sanitation workers across the globe are considered to be ‘Corona Warriors’ and they ought to be given each and every facility, but in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district scores of sanitation workers are facing problems over the past couple of weeks or so.
Early Times has learnt from sources that around 600 sanitation workers of the Pulwama district are yet to receive the salary of the month of May despite the fact that 17 days of the month of June have already passed by. The other financial matters of these sanitation workers have also been hit very badly.
“The accounts officer holding charge of Drawing & Disbursing Officer of the Municipal Council Pulwama and four municipal committees of the Pulwama district retired from the government service on May 31.
Since then no replacement has been sent to the district and as such the problems have been compounded,” said sources.
Sources said that sanitation workers and other staff of the local body institutions of the Pulwama district are facing problems since they have not been able to receive the salary of the month of May. They said that administration should immediately depute some accounts officer to Pulwama so that the problems come to an end.
“The sanitation workers and other staff of Municipal Council Pulwama and municipal committees of Tral, Awantipora, Pampore and Khrew along with their family members are facing lots of problems. Most of the sanitation workers are receiving very few bucks as monthly honorarium and when the same is not paid it is bound to lead to problems for such people,” said sources.
It would be in place to mention here that Director Urban Local Bodies Kashmir, Mathoora Masoom has shot a letter to Director Finance, Housing & Urban Development Department in this regard. The Director has demanded for early posting of Accounts Officer so that the problem is solved and salary is given to the aggrieved employees.
“In connection with the captioned subject it is submitted that the Accounts Officer holding charge of Drawing & Disbursing officer for Municipal Council Pulwama and other Municipal Committees of the District has retired from service on 31.05.2021 and no substitute has been posted in his place as on date,” reads the letter shot by Mathoora under correspondence number DULB/Estt/10416 dated 15-06-2021.
The letter further reads, “Due to non-posting of Accounts Officer, the employees of Municipal Councils/Committees are suffering for drawal of salaries, as such, it is requested that the matter may kindly be taken up with the Finance Department for early posting of Accounts officer in Municipal Council Pulwama so that the salaries are drawn and disbursed in favour of the employees of MC Pulwama and other Municipal Committee of the District.”
Meanwhile, sources have said that the accounts officer of local bodies of Pulwama district was also the drawing and disbursing officer of some of the other government departments in the district. They said the accounts officer was also holding charge of the Fund Office of the Pulwama district. The aggrieved have demanded that charge of Accounts Officer should be given to some officer until the Accounts Officer is permanently posted.
