Online training programme on income generation activities for farm women held

Jammu, Jun 17: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized training programme on “Income Generation Activities for Farm Women” through virtual mode which was attended by a number of farm women of the area.
The programme was organised under the guidance of Director Extension of SKUAST-J, Dr.SK Gupta. The core objective of the training programme was to create better understanding of important income generating activities during COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme with the warm welcome of participants.
During the exhaustive technical session he guided farm women on various income generating activities such as organic vegetables cultivation, pickles making, sauce making, amchoor making, aam papad making, jam and jelly making, juice making, candy making, kalari making, value addition in flowers etc. He added that they can start micro-enterprises on these activities in the rural areas to enhance their income and employment.
He also discussed on packaging, leveling, branding and marketing of processed agro-products. He stressed on the formation and management of Self Help Groups (SHGs) among rural women for their empowerment.
He stressed on the homogeneity among the group members to develop the sustainability among the group members. Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist guided the farm women on the preservation of seasonal fruits and vegetables and elaborated the techniques of their value addition.
He narrated that by the value addition in fruits and vegetables rural women can fetch more money and thus they can raise their socio-economic status. He highlighted the small scale enterprises for the financial growth of rural women.
Sunita Devi, an awardee progressive farm woman of the area shared her experiences on fruits and vegetables processing with other farm women. During the programme many quarries were raised by the farm women which were answered satisfactorily by the KVK scientists. The programme was concluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal with formal vote of thanks.
