GDC Kalakote inaugurates workshop on International Yoga Day

Kalakote, Jun 18: Govt Degree college Kalakote, inaugurated four days online workshop on the theme, “ Yoga at home and Yoga with family”, organized by Department of Physical Education in Collaboration with EBSB Club and Literary Club.
The programme is organized to celebrate the 7th International Yoga Day in Commemoration to “Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav”.
International Yoga Day is observed every year on June 21, as mandated by the United Nations, to highlight the importance of the practice – defined as “physical, mental, and spiritual” at the same time – in helping people lead a healthier lifestyle.
The day is marked to raise awareness of the many benefits of Yoga, as it continues to grow in popularity across the world and is practiced in its various forms. This year, the International Day of Yoga is putting its focus on well-being beyond the immediate impact on physical health.
Celebrating this spirit of Yoga Day, GDC Kalakote organized this workshop to create awareness about the numerous benefits of Yoga .The programme started with a welcome address presented by Dr. Romesh kr. Gupta, Principal GDC Kalakote.
Giving a warm welcome to the Resources Person for this event, Som Dev Khajuria (Physical Education Master, C/O DYSSO Udhampur), Dr. Gupta appreciated all the faculty members and the students for their participation and spirit of learning.
Romesh kr. Gupta, also emphasized on the fact that during this ongoing coronavirus pandemic, when we are all bound to live a restricted life under the constant fear of infection risks, it is natural for anyone to develop anxiety and yoga can go a long way to help us feel relieved. Thus living through this lockdown & pandemic period, yoga is the best thing to adopt as a lifestyle habit. After the welcome address, the Resource Person, Som Dev khajuria started the session with a brief lecture on yoga and its important role for maintaining our physical, mental and emotional well-being.
He further added that a person who perform yoga on daily basis feels rejuvenated and energized as it bestows them with the powers to control body and mind. On this note, he started the yoga session and taught various asanas to the participants including Tadasana, Konasana , Utkatasana Padamaasana, Vajrasana, Gomukhasnana and various other asanas.
