Early Times Report

Kishtwar, June 18: In a tragic incident a labourer died while three others were injured after a pillar of under construction bridge collapsed near the bank of river Maru Sudar at Yaniewan Tunder in Kishtwar district.
As per the details available with Early Times during the ongoing construction of a bridge at Yaniewan, a pillar collapsed suddenly due to which a labourer identified as Shabir Ahmed (29), son of Ghulam Qadir of Drubeel, tehsil Mughal slipped into the river and was washed away.
The body was recovered after hectic search operation launched by the police and local administration with the help of the local people.
In the incident, three other labourers sustained injuries, who were identified as Zubair Ahmed (19) son of Shabir Ahmed, Abdul Rehman (32), son of Ghulam Rather and Farooq Ahmed (37), son of Ghulam Mohiudin Rather—all residents of Kewath Drubeel.
The sources told the Early Times that the sub standard work along with wrong excavation at the basement of the embankments of the river are said to be the main reason that led to the incident.
The construction work is being executed by the Special R&B Division Marwah through contractors.
Sources said that the concerned junior engineer was advised by the doctors to isolate himself after his family members tested positive. Later he also tested positive and had to take leave. “The matter was brought into the notice of I/C Executive Engineer Marwah Division who reportedly failed to make alternative arrangements as a result of which the concerned contractors with the help of some non qualified person started the work that led to tragic accident,” sources added.
The whole matter according to official sources has been on recorded in WhatsApp group of the department.
When contacted senior police official said that the FIR has been registered at Police Station Dachhan and added that investigations were on.
Assistant Labour Commissioner Kishtwar informed that the department has initiated the necessary process and inquiry into the matter. He said that several union leaders had called on him demanding compensation in favour of dead and injured. He said that the contractor in principal had agreed to give the adequate compensation to be decided by the Labour department.
