Jammu, June 22: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Poonch today organized a monthly officers workshop at KVK Poonch. The programme was organized under the patronage of Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu and Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Jammu. Extension functionaries of the Department of Agriculture from Mendhar, Surankote, Mandi and Poonch blocks of the district participated in the meeting. The monthly meeting is organized to discuss the field related problems in agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and other farming related enterprises by the farming community.
Dr Ajay Gupta, Sr Scientist & Head KVK welcomed the officers and apprised the Extension functionaries regarding ongoing field activities. He also expressed pleasure regarding sowing of maize crop in all the blocks of Poonch district and congratulated Extension functionaries for their tireless efforts for providing seed to the farmers during Covid time. Dr Ajay Gupta also discussed the need for better weed management in maize and paddy crop for obtaining maximum profitability and earthling up in maize to reduce the risk of lodging in maize. He also stressed the need for expediting formation and promotion of FPOs in the district and assured full help of KVK to the Department and farmers.
Dr Muzaffar Mir discussed the management strategies in fruit and vegetable crops during the ongoing season. The meeting was attended by more than 35 officers. DAO Extension Sh Ajaz Ahmed Kohli, Subject Matter Specialists, Sh Des Raj Baru, and Sh Harvinder Singh were also present in the discussion. At the end, Dr Muzaffar Mir, SMS Fruit Science presented vote of thanks. .
