FEMINISM: A FORCE
6/22/2021 11:57:34 PM

“Each time a women stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it. She stands up for all women”—Maya Angelou
The word “Feminism”stands familiar right? The reason is that this word is becoming common day by day. But according to you or What do you think the real meaning of this word means? Is it a war against men? Does it include placing women above men? No, its not the correct one, its not just a women’s movement,it is “movement for all humans”. Step out of this views that feminism just mean female superiority and treating men as inferior. Both the genders must be treated equal, then we will have a society where we not these movements to prove us. The major cause for this inequality is -Our Society. If you will look at the history you will see many female figures who are great examples of courage and power.
1) Draupadi-a women born out of fire, avenged the humiliation, which was upon her in Mahabharata.
2) Sita fought for her independence, raised her two sons alone in Ramayana.
Feminism in India:-
India is a country who strongly need this feminism because of our cultural practices who have made females . Firstly we need to break menstrual taboos. In country like India this menstruation is treated something as impure and unmentionable. Why? These are the ones who are making our society. These are the ones who are bearing pain and gives birth to. Child and thus she is making your family. In some areas , women are not allowed to enter kitchen during their menstrual period. The main reason behind this injustice is -lack of awareness and education. Another thing that comes to light is the hypocrisy where on one hand ,we worship Kamakhya Devi, also known as bleeding goddess, and on the other hand we restrict women on their periods from entering into temples . Why this hypocritical nature?
Secondly ,our stereotypical nature, we have restricted females to certain professions-like weaving , teaching, and homemaking. Why to restrict them ? Inspire them, Motivate them and Believe me they gonna change this world. Let’s take an example -Feminist Critic Elaine Showalter in her book “Towards a Feminist Poetics” shared her views on feminism and she gave an example -Once ,a woman was moving inside the theatre ,three men standing outside were shocked. The reason behind this was at that time women were not thought as the individual who can think or they can do better than men . This is all because of our stereotypical nature.
Another reason is to stop telling them how to dress. You are nobody to tell them how to wear clothes or what type of clothes they should wear. People have started judging women on the basis of their clothes. We can see various instances where fatwas have been issued against female Celebrities for wearing western clothes. Who are you to judge them ? Another appalling incident occurred when a politician compared immodest clothes to invitation of rape. How disgusting is this?
In 2018, ME TOO MOVEMENT was organised where many female celebrities came amd share their views fearlessly, how they were being sexually assaulted when they were at the age of 12. Is it a inhumane activity??
An actor par excellence, Farhan Akhtar initiated the social media campaign MARD (Men Against Rape and Discrimination) to be vocal and raise awareness against gender inequality and violence against women. Advocating for women’s rights, Akhtar went on to become the first man to be appointed as the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia. He also collaborated with music composers Salim-Sulaiman on the song Chulien Aasmaan which is a musical take on the theme of women empowerment. In a panel discussion with Vogue, he was quoted saying, “Gender violence and gender inequality is not just a woman’s issue. It’s also a man’s issue. It’s not just because we have mothers, wives, sisters, and daughters. We’re here because it’s a human rights issue and we are all human beings.”
Its time to recognize that feminism isn’t about making women strong . Women are already strong. It’s about changing the way of the world perceives this strength. Feminism shouldn’t be perceived as hostility against men because Me Asking For My Rights Will Not Deprive Of Yours !
“There is no force more powerful than a women determined to Rise!”
