After change of guard, violators encroach state land in Reasi

Early Times Report

REASI, June 23: The change of guard at the district level sometimes allows the encroachers to run away Scott free and in fact they are emboldened to carry out the violation of the municipal laws and as such the whole system goes awry. Same has happened in the Pouni area of this district with the common masses upset over the entire scheme of things. The ‘inaction’ from the people at helm in the area gave a chance to the violators of law to have their own way while coming up with a construction in an illegal manner without any permission whatsoever.
Sources told Early Times that some months back a group of influential people encroached upon a huge chunk of state land and tried to carry out the construction on the land. The encroachment got reported to the higher ups in the administration including then Deputy Commissioner, Reasi Indu Kanwal Chib.
“Then DC Reasi along with the other officials including the Tehsildar acted swiftly and cleared the state land of the encroachment. However, the things changed as soon as there was change of guard at the DC level in the district. The encroachers were emboldened so much so that they dictated terms to the present dispensation,” said sources.
Sources said that DC Reasi was transferred and the concerned Tehsildar got infected with COVID-19. They said the new Deputy Commissioner Reasi failed to follow the footsteps of the predecessor. As a result of this the violator made a comeback and trampled over the set norms. “The violator once again managed to encroach upon the chunk of state land following which he came up with the construction as well. The district administration acted as a mute spectator and same holds true with the authorities of the Department of Revenue,” said the sources.
The locals have appealed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to order a probe in the matter so that punitive action is taken against the violators of law. Despite repeated attempts DC Reasi, Charandeep Singh did not pick up the phone.
