5 day online extension activities hosted for skill students culminates at GDC Poonch

POONCH, July 4: Department of Botany, Government Degree College Poonch organized 5 day long virtual extension activities for the skill students of Semester 6 concluded today.
The event was held under the overall supervision of Principal, Prof M H Shah and HOD Botany, Dr Rani Mughal and witnessed seminars, lectures by students of skill, students of bio fertilizers and extension lectures.
Dr.Rani Mughal spoke at length about the usefulness of skill based courses in providing much needed employment to the youth and how development of entrepreneurial culture can benefit our society. She also spoke about the need of collaboration with experts for training the youth in the relevant skills. She threw light on the very burning issue of unemployment and how the future generations can reduce their dependence on government sector jobs without compromising on their aspirations of a bright future.
Online expert talks were delivered by Dr Ajay Gupta senior scientist and Head KVK Poonch, who delivered a comprehensive talk on vermicomposting. He also appreciated the efforts of HOD Botany Prof Rani Mughal to organize the program to promote skill enhancement courses among the students.
Dr Jasbir Singh from department of agriculture spoke on mushroom cultivation technology, while Dr Ashaq Malik a renowned botanist and a dedicated academician of Government PG College Rajouri spoke at length about the importance of bio fertilizers and also highlighted the adverse effects of chemical fertilizers on the environment and soil. Besides, a general account of microorganisms in nitrogen fixation was also discussed by him.
Meanwhile, extension lectures were also organized for students of semester 4. Prof Mohammed Razaq from department of botany , GDC Mendhar and Dr Hasan Jaleel from department of botany, GDC Reasi spoke at length on their respective topics. Pertinent to mention that both of them had earlier served in the department of botany GDC Poonch .
The proceedings of the program were conducted by Dr Mahroof Khan, senior Assistant Professor and organizing Secretary of the event.
Dr Farooq Ahmed HOD Zoology threw light on his feedback and review remarks about the virtual event. Dr Muzafar Akbar Rather, In-charge of the skill enhancement course presented the vote of thanks.
The seminar lectures were adjudicated by Dr Farooq Ahmed HOD Zoology GDC Poonch, Dr Bagh Hussain HOD Botany GDC Mendhar, Dr Aziz Ahmed Chohan of GDC Poonch beside Dr Mahroof Khan who moderated the proceedings of the program as well.
First position was jointly bagged by Asia Khatoon, Mohammed Kamran, second was fetched by Sehar Latief whereas third position was bagged by four students namely Nazma Rayaz, Mohammed Alyas, Maryam Khatoon, Mohammed Yasir all skill students of Sem 6. Merit certificates were also awarded to position holders of students of the skill course.
A total 25 registered skill students of Bio fertilizers attended the program whereas a considerable number of students of Sem 4 were also present in the online activity. The technical support was provided by Dr Basharat Ali former lecturer department of Botany GDC Poonch.
