| Creation of new "Thathri Assembly Constituency demanded | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 8: The people of Sub-Division Thathri comprising of Tehsils namely Thathri, Phagsoo, Bhella, Chiralla , Kahara & also the people of two more Tehsils Mahalla & Drabshalla, has brought some points for sympathetic action & consideration for creation of new "Thathri Assembly Constituency" .
They demanded that Thathri is a Sub-Divisional Head Quarter situated on the main National Highway No. 244 and is almost pivotal centre of whole population of above mentioned 7 Tehsils in respect of all the activities of routine life. That there is only Government Degree College at Thathri where the students of all these seven Tehsils feel convenient to take admission for higher studies. That Tehsil Drabshalla is hardly 4 kms from main Sub-Division Thathri & Tehsil Mahalla is just 11 kms from main Sub-Division Thathri & therefore forms the geographical compactness which is pre-requisite for an Assembly constituency.
That the total voters of all 7 mentioned above Tehsils are about 90,000. That the whole population of these 7 Tehsils mentioned above is about 70% below poverty line. That in the last delimitation held in 1995, no regard has been paid to geographical continuity- a main parameter for de-limitation. In view of above mentioned facts, taking into consideration the geographical continuity as strong case for a separate "Thathri Assembly Constituency" may be created so that the long pending demand of people of this hilly, snow bound and backward area is met after feeling the bite of neglect, discrimination & step motherly treatment at the hands of politicians who exploited the people in the name of region & religion. |
