BARAMULLA, July 14: One lady got drowned while two others were rescued in a stream at Drung area of Tangmarg in this north Kashmir district on Wednesday morning.
Locals from Tangmarag area said that, a family from Srinagar district had visited here to enjoy and breathe a fresh air, but it turned into tragedy, after few members of a family was swept away by fast flowing stream in Drang.
Soon after the news spread like a wildfire, people from nearby areas informed the police and local youth who rushed to the spot to help the needy family, said Bashir Ahmad, a local.
An eyewitness said that, earlier in the day , a few family members had taken a bath in the nearby Ferozpora Nallah near Dreng and were taken away by a fast flowing stream. Soon after this incident a rescue was launched by locals and police that went for some time till the body of a lady was recovered.
Aged about 21-22 years was found dead while another few were rescued immediately and were shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Tangmarag for advanced treatment.
However sources said that two were killed in the drowning incident, but it was not immediately confirmed by the police officials, however the identity of those who drowned as well as that of the rescued were not quickly ascertained.
Locals from the Tangmarag area also said that two girls were drowned, and they alleged that it is the responsibility of administration to keep the people away from bathing in fast flowing streams like Ferozpora nallah or some other streams at picnic places.
Sirens should have been installed at danger zones, and restrictions should be fixed at such vulnerable places in future, adding there is a need of fencing both sides of the stream, so that the general public cannot take a bath in it.
It is pertinent to mention here that, this is not the first incident of drowning, but in the past as well such incidents have occurred, and still thereafter both the general public and the administration is not taking any such measures so that precious lives could be saved well in time.
