Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 24: Natrang's National Theatre Talk Show, 'Young Voices of Theatre', on the Facebook page of Natrang featured Sangeet Natak Akademi's Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Awardee, NSD alumni, theatre director and light designer, Meeta Mishra today in the 47th episode where she shared her inspirational thoughts with the global audience.
Meeta Mishra has acted in more than 20 plays 'The House of Bernarda Alba', 'Antigone', 'Medea', 'Kailasam plays', 'Rudali' and 'Saamp-Seedhi' are some of the plays she has acted in. Recently she has acted in 'Leila', a Netflix original series under the direction of Deepa Mehta. Ministry of Culture's Junior Fellowship holder, Meeta has conducted workshops in acting, designing and teaching for Theatre and is a practicing light designer too. She has to her credit more than 200 shows within a span of 3 years for only light design and execution as a freelancer all over India for dance and Theatre shows. The Theatre club of her college led her into the world of theatre and she feels that theatre was therapeutic, brought back her physical health and led her to becoming a complete confident person. She has acted in a few Kannada language serials and also a Kannada movie quite some time ago.
In a thought provoking conversation with Natrang's senior artist Neeraj Kant, Meeta narrated her eventful journey of theatre which started in early childhood. Being featured on the auspicious occasion of Gurupurnima, she expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards all her teachers. By the time she reached college, theatre had already become an integral part of her life. Speaking about her style of direction, she believes in putting self behind and character in front. She considers herself as an actor's director who does not believe in thrusting her ideology on the actors rather keeps an ample space for their say as well. She also opines that at least one working theatre repertory in every State can change the overall cultural scenario of the country. Speaking about the present time of corona crisis, she shares that it was the need of the hour to be tech friendly and one shall be open to it.
