Harsh Dev alleges administration serving BJP interests
8/7/2021 11:35:56 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 7: Alleging politicization of bureaucracy in J&K, Harsh Dev Singh Chairman-JKNPP and former Minister said that the UT administration was being used and abused by the BJP for furtherance of its political prospects and to bog down the opposition parties that attempted to expose its misdeeds.
He said that a culture of quid pro quo had emerged in J&K where BJP was favouring the bureaucrats with prized postings and the latter helping out the former in its political diversification. It has been established beyond the doubt that the bureaucracy in general has been lending its shoulder to BJP leaders to fire their guns from. The instances of such condescendence on the part of BJP and the present administration are too many to recount. And each outdoes the other in brazen bias and prejudice. He was addressing a press conference in Jammu today.
While instances of such politicization of official machinery are being noticed everywhere in the UT, the administration in Udhampur seems to have been completely taken over by BJP, asserted Mr. Singh. With common man and opposition being completed ignored and rather harassed, it was the BJP which was dictating terms to civil and police officers and using them for promotion of their political prospects. He pointed out the BJP leaders were holding political meetings in the District and forcing the officers to attend the same.
Political philosophy and agenda of BJP was being disseminated in such meetings with its leaders going hammer and tongs against the opposition leaders. In two of such meetings held this week in Sundla, Khoon and Ramnagar, the BJP leaders including its Ex-MLA and Mandal Pradhans who occupied the centre stage and raised slogans in favour of BJP besides condemning the opposition parties while directing the officers to stay there as their audience. And when some honest officers objected to the brazen politicization of govt functionaries they were snubbed and threatened full public view", divulged Mr. Singh.
Not only that in another episode the Ex-BJP MLA from Ramnagar was given contractor cards by the PWD Deptt for distributing among dozens of applicants. The said Ex-MLA held a BJP meeting and announced to give such cards only to those persons who joined BJP. Likewise some BJP leaders were using administration to threaten the elected BDC Chairpersons and DDC members of NPP to quit their party and join BJP. The aforesaid recordings had gone viral with none to take notice. So much so that the common people were being threatened not to start even their private works without the same being inaugurated by BJP leaders. Shall any 'champion of democracy' take a call on such incidents of brazen autocracy and authoritarianism of BJP, questioned Mr. Singh.
The NPP Chairman further expressed grave concern over the politicization of police apparatus in District Udhampur for the last few years. He said that while criminals owing allegiance to BJP were granted immunity for their offences, the innocent people belonging to other parties were being booked in frivolous cases. With criminals being absolved and innocents victimised, the District Police Udhampur had touched a new low in the history of political mis-adventurism. Calling upon the Lt. Governor to intervene, Singh urged him to ensure a fair and free administration in District Udhampur in the interest of Democracy and rule of law.
Gagan Pratap Singh (State Secretary-JKNPP), Surinder Chouhan (District President Jammu Rural) and Gurdeep Singh (Youth Secretary Jammu Rural) were also present in the press conference.
