GLDMGDC Hiranagar organizes webinar on "Role of Mahatma Gandhi in the freedom movement"

KATHUA, Aug 10: Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial Government Degree College(GLDMGDC), Hiranagar organized a webinar on the "Role of Mahatma Gandhi in the freedom movement". The program was conducted by the Psychological Counseling Cell in collaboration with the NSS unit and IQAC of the College under the aegis of "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" which is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of freedom of progressive India and the glorious culture, history and achievements of its people. The keynote speaker of the webinar was Kewal Krishan Wadhera, a renowned social activist and luminary who is also a member of the Bharat Vikas Parishad, Vichar Kranti Manch and the Red Cross Society. Wadhera lauded prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative to launch this Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav from Gandhiji's Sabarmati Ashram for spreading this movement officially to every institution of the country. He spoke at length about historical events of freedom movement like Dandi March and enlightened the students about the emerging new ideologies which have actually developed from the age-old and rich Indian traditions of Vasudev Kutumbkam and Gandhian values of Swach Bharat. He further offered many practical suggestions to the audience and students to save environment by taking an active part in plantation drives, polythene ban drive, using organic products instead of chemical products, gifting saplings on functions, saving water and electricity and promoting the use of Khadi cloths as propagated by Gandhi Ji. Principal of the College, Prof. Kuldeep Singh Koushal, who was the chief patron of this event, also reiterated the importance of inculcating patriotism and Gandhian values among the students and youngsters who are the future citizens of India. Prof. Davinder Kour, Convenor, Psychological Counseling Cell and HOD Education also exhorted the students ( especially the NCC and NSS volunteers) to follow the tips and suggestions offered by the resource person. Prof. Rakesh Sharma, NSS program officer and HOD Hindi also spoke at length about Gandhi Ji's role and contribution in the freedom struggle. The proceedings of the webinar were conducted by Prof. Anju Rani, HOD History, who also delivered the welcome address. Prof. Kiran Thapa, Department of Education, presented the vote of thanks. Prof. Bhavana Jamwal and Prof. Sukhdeep Singh Sassan were also the organizing members of the webinar.
