KVK Reasi celebrates Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

Reasi, Aug 27: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) celebrated Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav here at Pouni village in Reasi district of J&K which was enthusiastically attended by a number of farm women of the area.
The theme of the programme was “Food and Nutrition for Farmers”. The event was organised under the able guidance of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.JP Sharma and Director Extension (DE), Prof. S.K. Gupta of SKUAST-J. All SOPs pertaining to COVID-19 pandemic were strictly followed while conducting the programme. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi with the warm welcome of the participants.
He briefed the significance of the event and said that there is dire need to aware the farmers about the importance of balance diet for the well being of their health.
He spoke in length on health of women and children and advised participants to focus on malnutrition and anemia among the women and children. He also discussed on the stunting in children. He informed that more than one-third children in the country are malnourished and there is dire need to intensify the awareness on the importance of nutrition for the children good health which has an impact on development, productivity, economic growth and ultimately national development. He stressed on the kitchen gardening and roof top vegetables gardening to mitigate the vegetables needs of the family. He said that it’s not just what we eat but also how and when we eat also matters for the good health. He also guided women farmers on nutri-gardens, nutri-thali and biofortified crops. He stressed on the organic food products which are useful for the healthy life. Dr.Lobzang Stanzen, Scientist said that women should have the balance diet and should include the vitamins such as Vitamins D, B2, B6, B12 and minerals such iron, folic acid, iodine and calcium. He informed that milk is an important source of Calcium and emphasized on the intake of leafy vegetables, fruits and mushroom. He narrated that nutritious food should consists of grains, pulses, vegetables, fruits, milk, meat, eggs, nuts etc.
Anil Kumar, JKNRLM added that co-ordinated efforts are needed by the different sectors to eliminate the menace of malnutrition and said that every individual should try to improve his or her nutrition level. He thanked KVK, Reasi for organizing such programmes. In this programme organic inputs were also provided to the participants. During the programme Sarpanches and Panches of the area were also present.
During the farmers-scientists interaction the participants asked various quarries which were answered by the scientists in a satisfactorily way. The event was assisted byManohar Lal andAnil Kumar concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal, Incharge, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi with formal vote of thanks.
