Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 2: College Teachers Association (CTA) has decided to continue their protest and wear black ribbon as a mark of protest against their failure of government to consider their demands.
The college teachers across the UT of J&K have been protesting against the apathetic and callous attitude of the Govt. towards their genuine but long pending demands viz a viz restoration of Advanced Increments for higher qualifications, regular DPCs with monetary effect from the date of eligibility of placement, Immediate adoption of UGC Regulations-2018 by issuing the required Statutory order without any further delay, provision of Study Leave for the pursuit of PhD, etc.
They had observed Pen Down strike on 19th and 20th August, 2021 and have been continuing the protest by way of wearing black ribbons on their arms since 23rd of August, 2021.
Dr. Rakesh Jasrotia, President, J&K College Teachers' Association (JKCTA) informed that it was unanimously agreed by everyone present in the online meeting of General Council, CTA held on 24th August, 2021 that the neglect of the genuine issues of the college teachers by the Govt. clearly shows general apathy towards higher education and so decided to continue wearing black ribbon while attending duties in the college as a mark of resentment against the neglect of the higher education by the Govt. of UT of J&K.
The Staff Secretaries and Councillors who attended the meeting wondered when the college teachers are taking into account the interest of the students while deciding the mode and schedule of the protest, why the Govt. is not heeding to the genuine demands of the college teachers.
Besides, Dr. Rakesh Jasrotia highlighted that the necessary directions and minutes of meeting on various issues have already been issued or resolved but the same haven't been implemented at the ground level for the reasons best known to the departments of the Govt. In the meeting, it was also resolved that if the Govt. doesn't soon address the genuine issues of the college teachers and continue to overlook/ignore the same as has been done so far, we will be compelled to go on indefinite pens down strike.
