Early Times Report

Kishtwar, Sept 2: Dozens of houses have suffered damages due to continuous blasting at under construction Kirru power project in Nagsini block of Kishtwar District.
Haphazard blasting has triggered resentment among the residents who have suffered immense losses in the process. They have threatened protest in case the government and project management fail to compensate the losses.
Talking to Early Times, DDC member Faisal Hussain said that due to ongoing construction work at 1000 MW Pakal-Dool, Kwar and Kirru, the whole Nagsini area is suffering due to pollution and continuous blasting in the area. “In one such incident, the houses situated in and around Kirru power Project suffered damages to their homes. Even the utensils and other things kept by the people at home suffered damages due to impact of huge blasting. The administration and the project management have failed to provide compensation on account of the losses to the common people,” Hussain added.
“What is for us in these projects— they are of no use for locals. They have even failed to provide jobs to local unemployed youths of the area as well as to the people who have given their land,” Hussain said.
He said that he had taken up the matter with General Manager CVPPP, but got no assurance from him with regard to the damages suffered by the people. Even the administration has failed to provide justice to the people. “If we don’t get justice people won’t be left with any other option other than to hit the roads.”
