KVK organises awareness programme on Parthenium

POONCH, Sept 2: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Poonch of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) carried out a various programmes on Parthenium weed management in the district.
During the last week, KVK Poonch organized five programmes in village panchayat Bela Chouhana, Khanetar Kalsan, Chaktroo, Darra Dullian, Degwar to aware the masses about harmful effects of this deadly weed and measures to control the weed. During the programme, Dr Ajay Gupta explained about the harmful effects of Parthenium weed on crop production human health, animal health and ecosystems. He also elaborated physical, chemical and biological methods of weed control and use of competitive plants for checking the menace of Parthenium. Dr S S Jamwal Programme Assistant highlighted the need for community participation by locals to prevent the further spread of this noxious weed.
Officials of Department of Agriculture, Sh Kulbir Singh, JAEO, Sh Devender Singh and Sh Tanveer Ahmed from Department of Agriculture also delivered lecture and advised the locals to eradicate this deadly weed from their surroundings, neighborhood and community lands as well as agriculture fields as this potent weed spreads at an alarming rate. Parthenium management drive involving locals were conducted taking all precautions using hand gloves and face masks at different demonstration sites in these villages. Napier root slips were planted in the areas after Parthenium management and pamphlets on Parthenium were also provided to the farmers.
