| District admin to shut five stone crushers operating on ‘state land’ | | | Saahil Suhail

Anantnag, Sept 5: The Anantnag district administration has reportedly decided to close stone crushers which are running on alleged state land in Anantnag and Qazigund areas of the district.
According to well placed sources, the district administration after receiving complaints against the stone crushers, has ordered a preliminary enquiry to ascertain the facts.
“During the initial investigation, it came to fore that five stone crushers were operating on state land on Nipora Qazigund and at Gundfatehpora Anantnag,” an official said.
The Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr Piysuh Singla has issued a detailed order regarding the matter and concerned Tehsildars have been directed to close down these stone crushers.
The officials said that M/S Sahara Stone Crusher, M/S Gousia Stone Crusher, M/S Khanday Crusher and M/S Khushboo Stone Crusher operating on stand land in Nipora Qazigund will be shut while as M/S Mehak Stone Crusher operating at Gundfatehpora on state land will be closed down.
These stone-crushers, officials admitted, were operating for a long time and were evading any action as the owners were politically backed.
According to sources, most of the stone crusher plants in Anantnag are blatantly violating the environmental norms; however the admin surprisingly isn’t taking action against them.
They claimed that some people have even set up stone crushers on agricultural land without seeking necessary permission and No-Objection certificates from the concerned departments. “Stone crushers operating in Panzath Qazigund along National Highway have also been set up in violation of norms,” they said.
Sources said that stone crushers have been set up along river banks in Anantnag totally in violation of norms. “These stone crushers are damaging the environment and are damaging nearby orchards and paddy land,” they added. |
