Kulgam, Oct 20: Security Forces on Wednesday evening neutralized LeT Commander and his associate in a brief shootout in Sopat village of South Kashmir's Kulgam.
Earlier in the day, the security forces also killed two militants in Cheerbagh Dragad area of South Kashmir's Shopian district.
The neutralized militants, police said, were involved in Killing of two non-local laborers at Wanpoh Kulgam.
"Police and Army neutralized LeT district commander (Gulzar Ahmd Reshi) of Kulgam and one other, who were involved in killings of two poor laborers from Bihar on 17/10/21 at Wanpoh: IGP Kashmir", Kashmir Police tweeted while quoting Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar. Security Officials told Early Times that that cordon and search operation was initiated in Sopat Village of Kulgam on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
While the cordon was being laid, the hiding militants fired upon the joint team triggering a brief gunfight. During the course of action two militants were killed. The slain militants were identified as Gulzar Ahmad Reshi s/o Abdul Rehman Reshi, resident of Gufbal Kulgam and Imran Ahmad Dar s/o Gh. Nabi Dar, resident of Redwani Bala Kulgam. Duo were affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba and currently were working under the banner of TRF. Gulzar Reshi, according to Jammu and Kashmir Police, was heading the militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba in Kulgam district.
PRO (Defence) in Srinagar, Col Emron Musavi in a statement said that an AK rifle and other warlike stores have been recovered. “Joint Operation in progress,” the statement read.
Pertinently, two militants were also killed in Shopian district early today.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir ViJay Kumar said that one of the two “militants” killed in Shopian gunfight was involved in the killing of a carpenter, Sageer Ahmad of UP, recently.
Sageer, a resident of Sarai Hisamuddin in Saharanpur in UP, was killed by the gunmen last weekend at Litter Pulwama.
“One of the killed (militants) has been identified as Adil Ahmad Wani, active since 7/2020. He was involved in killing of one poor laborer at Litter Pulwama,” the IGP said in a tweet, So far, he said, 15 militants have been killed in two weeks.
