RAJOURI, Nov 11: To bring behavioural change and inculcate healthy food habits and also to educate the masses about different schemes of ICDS, an awareness program was today organised here at Peeri.
The event was organised by the Department of ICDS in collaboration with the Food Safety Department.
Pertinently, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has started 'Eat Right Challenge' a competition for districts and cities across the country last year to encourage people to make more nutritious choices in food consumption and district/city authorities to promote local food and reduce the use of chemicals in food production.
Stressing on the need for a nutritious and healthy diet, the District Programme Officer, Kartar Singh said that healthy nutrition and good food is the base for a healthy body and a healthy mind and nutrition plays an important role in the overall development of an individual.
He added that as a healthy mind resides in a healthy body, it is necessary to have nutrition like salts, vitamins, proteins etc in daily diet.
The District Program Officer also emphasized convergent efforts by all stakeholders to achieve the challenging task of eradicating malnutrition.
He also stressed vaccination, immunization of the children to protect them from deadly diseases, such as polio, tetanus, and diphtheria, but they also keep other children safe by eliminating or greatly decreasing dangerous diseases that used to spread from child to child besides, he also asked for hundred per cent enrollment of the children in the Anganwadi centres. Assistant Commissioner Food safety, Ajeet Singh emphasised the participants to adopt and disseminate a clear message to the doorstep to use fortified food and limit consumption of high fat, sugar and salt foods.
He also appealed to the people to inform the food safety officials if they feel unsure about the safety of packaged food or any food items so that the problems of food adulteration can be tackled successfully.
