Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust celebrates Janjatiya Gaurav Divas

JAMMU, Nov 16: Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust celebrated birth anniversary of “Birsa Munda” as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas to honour brave tribal freedom fighters. The Janjatiya Gaurav Divas celebration is to commemorate the brave tribal freedom fighters as part of the year-long celebrations of 75 years of India’s Independence.
Munda fought for India’s Independence against the British colonial exploitative system. On this occasion, Secretary, Tribal Affairs Department and Mission Youth, Dr Shahid Choudhary was present as Chief Guest and Deputy Commissioner Jammu Anshul Garg was the Guest of honour.
Dr Choudhary said that declaration of November 15 as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas acknowledges the cultural heritage and glorious history of tribal communities. The Janjatiya Gaurav Divas will be celebrated every year to recognize the efforts of the tribals in the preservation of cultural heritage and promotion of Indian values of national pride. The Central and State government jointly will organize several activities during the week-long celebrations.
He expressed satisfaction in implementation of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Rights) Act and related measures for expeditious disposal of cases. He said a number of measures for tribal welfare have been taken and called for concerted efforts of district and sub-divisional committees to ensure effective implementation.
Deputy Commissioner Jammu while speaking on the occasion said that host of initiatives aimed at tribal welfare and community centric conservation have been taken by the government. He ensured that district wise progress and disposal of cases related to community and individual claims under the Forest Rights Act will be expedited.
