Revamp power infra in border belt, allot adequate funds: Tony
Allots Rs 50 lakh for improving power infra, seeks free power supply for farming community

Early Times Report

SUCHETGARH, Nov 16: Taranjit Singh Tony Member DDC Suchetgarh on Tuesday urged LG Manoj Sinha to revamp the worn out and archaic power infrastructure in the border belt to provide much needed succor to farming community and general masses as the same is in abysmal condition and also sought adequate funds for the cause.
The DDC member was addressing an impressive gathering at Village Haripur Sadrey in Suchetgarh Constituency after inaugurating a newly installed power transformer in presence of Sarpanch Haripur, Kanu Chandval.
He said that the power edifice in border is on the verge of collapse as for the last 12 years the BJP leadership steering the area has not paid any heed to uplift the power infrastructure leading to such a precarious situation that has forced people to live with the shaky facilities with power outages becoming a common feature and weary transformers getting out of order becoming a norm here.
Tony said that the people here mostly belong to farming class and depend wholly on power to satiate their irrigation needs but those sitting at helm for the last over a decade belonging to BJP have seldom taken care leading to this emergent situation where power cuts are the new norms and damage to transformers is a daily affair besides low lying power cables threatening lives of people and even livestock.
The DDC member demanded that every bit of the power infrastructure needs replacement and for this government should sanction handsome amount as funds. He said that absence of canal water for irrigation due to poor maintenance of the same at the tail end has forced the tillers to depend on power for irrigation but the faulty and underrated transformers are also of no use thus leaving the farmers to lurch especially during sowing season.
He said that he has given funds to the tune of Rs 50 lakh for the cause but still there are big gaps and the government needs to act fast in this direction because the rice bowl of the UT is in dire need of adequate power edifice to grow world famous Basmati rice as dearth of power and poor irrigation facilities are denting the farming activity badly. He appealed to the Lt Governor to provide free power supply to farming community of the border belt.
Taranjit Singh Tony also demanded concrete policy for the adhoc based linemen working with PDD claiming that due to absence of policy many families of these temporary workers had to face ordeals because there are no provisions for compensation if any accident happens on duty. He said that this is sheer injustice and should be looked after on priority because the onus of providing relief lies on the shoulders of government.
Among others who were present include Naib Sarpanch Ravi Singh, Panchs Kuldeep Chand and Uttam Chand, Om Parkash Majhotra, Asha Devi, Shakuntala Devi, Meera Kumari, Jitender Singh Mithu, Aman Singh and Sohan Singh.
