Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 23: Three Councillors of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Amit Gupta, Gaurav Chopra and Anu Bali today staged a sit-in outside JMC premises by closing the main gate.
The protest by three Councillors was stage to express their resentment agaisnt the action being taken by the Corporation against the shopkeepers.
During this demonstration, Councillor Gaurav Chopra and Councillor Amit Gupta raised slogans against the Corporation officials, Municipal Commissioner, Mayor and Deputy Mayor. During the protest, the Councillors said that the way Municipal Corporation Jammu is destroying shops these days, harassing shopkeepers by putting yellow lines in front of the shops and constantly intimidating the shopkeepers by calling their shops illegal, is totally unacceptable and they oppose it.
They said that if these shops are illegal then why action was not taken against them at the time when they were constructed. The Corporation should take action on the officers who were there then, now when these shopkeepers have been running shops for years, the Corporation runs yellow claws on them and causes damage to their property, they added.
Councillors said that seeing all this, why the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Corporation are silent, why this action is not being stopped. If there is nothing in their control then they should resign from their posts and BJP President Ravindra Raina should answer to the people of Jammu whether the people of Jammu have these types of good days, do the people of Jammu vote for these good days? they added. They said that the Councillors will not accept this hooliganism of the Corporation under any circumstances and to end it, it is necessary to have a house meeting of the Corporation, which is not being deliberately called by the Mayor.
