Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 23: As loyalists of former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad continue to submit resignations from posts and positions of the party, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir is likely to visit Delhi very soon to discuss the issue with the high command.
Although Mir is continuously briefing the high command about ongoing developments in Jammu and Congress, he will personally visit Delhi to devise a strategy to ‘quell’ the rebels to ensure discipline in the party.
A senior Congress leader, who owes his allegiance to Mir, told the Early Times that this time party wants to get rid of these dissidents who have been creating hurdles in the smooth functioning of the party.
On the condition of anonymity, the Congress leader said that the high command has also decided to take a final decision on J&K to ensure smooth working of the local unit before assembly elections.
“Keeping in view the coming assembly elections, the high command had earlier decided not to touch rebels, who were boycotting official functions for the last one year”, he said but hastened to add that after mass resignations of leaders, who owe their allegiance to Azad, the high command was appeared to be in a mood to take tough action against rebels.
As reported earlier, loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad continued to submit their resignations from posts and positions of the Congress party.
After the en-mass resignations of 28 senior leaders including former ministers and ex-legislators last week, almost the entire Udhampur unit of the Congress has resigned as a mark to protest against the style of functioning of J&K Congress chief Mir.
Those who resigned from the posts and positions of the party are known loyalists of the former leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Sources said that the Azad faction in the party was also keeping a watch on the activities of Ghulam Ahmed Mir. “Azad loyalists are anxiously waiting for the next step to be taken by Mir and his supporters”, a source said and added that during a meeting of Azad loyalists, a couple of days back, it was decided to further step up pressure on the high command and J&K unit.
