Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 6: A Police team of 35 cops from Doda, which went to trace a missing girl from Jhalari village of Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, not only returned empty handed, but also caused panic in the area by firing bullets and teargas in the wee hours Saturday.
The Doda Police conducted a search operation in the village without informing the concerned Police. “Nobody saw the time when teargas shells landed around in our houses. The Police also fired several bullets. Fearing a terrorist attack, we immediately informed concerned Police Station, Kihar, about the incident”, panicked residents narrated their ordeal while taking to local media.
“Our children are still in panic and suffering from the effects of the teargas’s effects. We are very grateful to our Police (Kihar Police) for swift actions. All 35 cops of Doda Police were taken into custody, who without informing the concerned Police entered into this village of Himachal Pradesh”, said a lady while consoling his baby.
According to the local media, the JKP team entered the village at around 4:30 am with any prior information to Himachal Pradesh Police. “How you can fire bullets and teargas shells, while conducting a search for a missing girl. A girl from Doda married a youth of this village at the time of marriage the girl was minor, now she is in her adulthood. In the past, the JKP have carried out many search operations in similar cases”, the local media raised questions on the action of Doda Police.
Meanwhile, SDPO Salooni, district Chamba Mayank Choudhary when contacted by this correspondent, said that it happened due to miscommunication between JKP and Himachal Police.
“They did not convey us timely, and launched the search operation, creating panic among the resident Jhalari village, but now the issue has solved”, he added.
SSP, Doda Mumtaz Ahmad who was on leave, said that he was not aware of the incident. However, he said, for missing people and crimes Doda Police keep conducting searches in villages of Chamba and other districts as well.
DySP Headquarters Doda, Jaswant Singh did not respond to the repeated phone calls by this scribe.
