Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 19: Shiv Sena Jammu and Kashmir unit has demanded inclusion and development of tourist and historical sites of Akhnoor on the tourist map of the Union Territory of J&K
The demand was vociferously raised during a program organized by the party’s State Unit to form its Chowki Chaura unit here today. Shiv Sena State unit President, Manish Sahni announced the formation of Chowki Chaura unit and appointed Sham Lal Sharma as its president. A large number of people joined the party on the occasion. While addressing the gathering Manish Sahni said that Akhnoor has not been accorded due recognition and status despite its historical importance and rich tourism potential. He said that it was here along the bank of River Chenab at Jiya Pota that Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh crowned Gulab Singh as the Dogra Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir on June 17, 1822 thus laying the foundation of Dogra Rule. Not only this, Akhnoor has multiple sites holding historical, mythological importance besides a lot of religious destinations which crave for proper development to be brought on the tourist map of the Union Territory. These include revered Gurudwara Sahib situated on the bank of the Chenab river which is a center of attraction for everyone besides many historical places like Pandav Caves, Kufi Devasthan, Sumah Devta, Ambaran, Kai Devta Ragani, Nad Devasthan, Baba Sunder Singh Taposthan, Balle De Bagh and Bagh Pir Baba Ziarat Sthan. Manish Sahni said that development of the aforesaid sited would attract tourists to this region besides boosting the business and economy of this region.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were, General Secretary Vikas Bakshi and Vice President Balwant Singh. Prabari Ashwani prabhakr. Rakesh Handa.
