Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 19: Talab Tilloo Traders’ Association staged a strong protest against the Union Territory administration for its alleged failure to bring the PDD employees on the table for talks as a result of which Jammu is reeling under blackout in absence of power failure.
Raising vociferous slogans against the administration, the traders alleged that with the Power employees going on strike last midnight, over 50 % of the electricity feeders have turned non-functional due to overloading of the system in the harsh winter conditions. With this power failure, the water supply has also been badly affected in major areas across the Union Territory.
They castigated the senior PDD officers for trying to downplay the grim situation that has emerged due to the indefinite strike of the PDD employees across J&K UT.
The traders asserted that people belonging to every section of the society are suffering at this juncture amid harsh winters and urged the UT Administration to immediately and unconditionally invite the employees’ representatives for talks and resolve the significant issue so that power supply, as well as the drinking water supply that has been affected by it, get restored at the earliest providing respite to the people.
It is pertinent to mention here that the PDD employees are demanding withdrawal of the process of privatization of electricity from the public sector to a private company and cancellation of all existing privatization and franchises in the power sector.
