Early Times Report

Doda, Dec 20: Former J&K Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday said that downgrading Jammu Kashmir into a Union Territory has closed all doors of development in the erstwhile State.
While addressing a public rally at Bus Stand Doda, Azad said that everything in Jammu and Kashmir has been degraded and people are caught in uncertainty. “Laborers are without work, land holders are terrified, daily wagers are without salary and the common man is insecure” said Azad.
Azad said that J&K resources are being sold to outsiders leaving the locals in lurch. He added that all the resources bestowed upon J&K people belong to us but non-locals are taking benefits.
He said that unemployment has increased manifolds and development is at a stake since the past few years despite tall claims by the government to exacerbate the overall development of Jammu and Kashmir.
Regarding electricity crisis Azad said that this was for the first time that army has been called out to maintain electricity as all employees of the department are on strike.
On the sidelines of the function he said that the reserve seats for SC/ST should equally be distributed among both the regions. He said that the Delimitation Commission exercise was planned added that as per past practice, the government invited members from all the parties in process of Delimitation added that Congress party being the oldest party of the country should be the part of the Delimitation exercise. He said that out of six seats proposed for Jammu Division, the majority of the seats should be carved in from constituencies spread of 3000/4000 Sq Km. He said that Udhampur, Chenab belt and Kathua deserve additional assembly seats since the majority of the seats in Jammu are spread over in only few kilometres.
Azad was accompanied by Senior Congress leader Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, Abdul Majeed Wani, Vikar Rasool Wani and others.
