SRINAGAR, Dec 23: Jammu and Kashmir Police claimed to have busted a fake currency racket and arrested three persons along with the counterfeit currency notes and gadgets in central Kashmir's Budgam district here on Thursday.
A police statement said during a naka checking at Narbal area, a police party intercepted one vehicle driven by one Taufeeq Hussain Khawaja a resident of Baliharan Singhpora Pattan in Baramulla district.
"During search the counterfeit currency notes worth Rs 45,000 were recovered from the vehicle," the statement said.
He said on questioning, the said person confessed to his involvement in printing fake currency notes at his Baliharan home.
He said accordingly a raid was carried out at his house during which counterfeit currency notes, two printers, one paper cutter, two reams of bond paper, one mobile phone and ten numbers of bond papers printed with Rs 100 fake currency notes were recovered.
The accused also revealed the names of his two associates, Farooq Ahmad Ganaie and Abdul Hamid, both residents of Pattan, who were circulating the fake currency notes in the market.
All the accused have been arrested and shifted to police post Narbal where they remain in custody, the statement said.
A case under relevant sections of the law has been registered at Police Station Magam in Budgam and further investigation into the matter is going on. More arrests and recoveries are also expected, he added. |
