Six local militants have been killed in four anti militancy operations in south Kashmir in the last 48 hours.
Police said the killer of Assistant Sub Inspector Mohammad Ashraf was killed in a gunfight at Khush Roi Kalan area of Srigufwara in Anantnag.
“Based on specific information generated by police regarding presence of a terrorist in village K Kalan Sirgufwara area of Anantnag, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by them and 3 RR ( Rashtriya Rifles) in the said area. During the search operation, as the presence of terrorist got ascertained, he was given ample opportunities to surrender. However, he refused to surrender and instead fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated upon, leading to an encounter,” a police spokesman said.

The slain terrorist has been identified by police as Faheem Bhat resident of Kandipora, Anantnag who was affiliated with Islamic State Jammu Kashmir.
“The slain terrorist had recently joined the terror outfit ISJK and was the main accused behind the killing of ASI Mohammad Ashraf near Police Station Bijbehara on December 22,” he said.
Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from his possession, he added.
