1/3/2022 10:46:39 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 3: After successfully neutralising one intruder and recovery of arms and ammunition in two separate incidents on Monday, Inspector General BSF, DK Boora said that the bag that contained the weapons had Pakistani marking.
He also said that ahead of Republic Day celebrations, infiltration attempts can be made from across the border but troops are on alert. "The recovery made today was the first in this year. A bag found in Ramgarh sector this morning that contained weapons and heroin, had Pakistani marking," the BSF IG told reporters during a press conference at Chamliyal in Ramgarh sector of Samba.
"We had inputs of fresh infiltration and smuggling of weapons due to which our troops were on alert and maintaining high level of vigil," he said adding that early morning, the troops also gunned down one intruder and sensing trouble, the suspects might have abandoned the bag and returned back.
"As Republic Day celebrations are nearing, we suspect infiltration attempts from across the border and the recovery of arms and ammunition is also part of such attempt but due to alertness by our troops, they might have returned," said the IG.
"As per our inputs, groups of terrorists are seen moving close to the border with a motive to infiltrate but our troops are 24x7 maintaining vigil," he said.
He also said that they have taken certain measures to counter the drone threat.
"The alert troops recovered a huge cache of Arms and ammunition and Narcotics from in Arnia Sector and also thwarted a smuggling bid by Pak based anti national elements," said the IG.
He said that the seizure include three AK-47 Rifles with 5 Magazines, 4 pistols with 7 magazines, 10 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, 7 rounds of 9 mm BALL, four rounds of 7.62 mm and 5 packets of suspected Heroin.
"There were intelligence inputs about Pak based elements making attempts to smuggle weapons and drugs into Indian territory. Accordingly the BSF, troops were kept on high alert and the area between fencing and IB was regularly patrolled," said the IG.
He said that this morning, during the zero line checking, the BSF party recovered a bag near International Border containing Arms/Amn which was to be smuggled into Indian side and thus averted a major tragedy. Boora lauded the efforts of alert BSF troops who despite heavy odds have stood up to the challenge and have risen to the occasion. They have foiled a major bid of terrorist to cause damage to country. He added that BSF has always been alert, as per the situation. It may be added that BSF has also killed a Pak intruder at border in Arnia Sector in the night also.
