Rains, snow forecast in J&K, Ladakh | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 3: Two successive western disturbances are expected to cause moderate to heavy rains and snowfall in the coming days in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh , the Meteorological Department has said. The rains and snowfall are expected from midnight of Monday till January 9. This could lead to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu, Srinagar-Ladakh and Mughal road as well as Sadhna pass and the Leh-Manali highway. The MeT office said the snowfall may also disrupt power supply in hilly areas and trigger avalanches and landslides in vulnerable areas of the Kashmir Valley. Heavy to moderate rain and snow will occur on the Pirpanjal range of Jammu division, from Bhaderwah to Banihal, and the upper reaches of Kashmir including Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Baramulla and Kupwara besides the Drass sub-division in Ladakh, the MeT Department said. After light rain and snow in a few places of Kashmir from January 3 evening, their intensity and spread will increase, an official said. Heavy rain and snow were most likely from January 5 to 8. The office advised people not to venture into risky areas during heavy snow and to maintain proper ventilation in their homes. |
