| Install full body scanners to check narco-terrorism in J&K: Zorawar Jamwal | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 18: Jammu Kashmir Unity Foundation and Team Jammu has raised the pitch for installation of full body scanners at vital points on Jammu-Srinagar National highway and Jammu-Poonch Highway to put a strong check on the narco-terrorism activated, aided and abetted by Pakistan.
The startling data of six lakh drug abuse victims in Jammu and Kashmir and seizure of 100s of crores of worth drugs substance in the recent past necessitated the demand for stringent measures against narco-terrorism promoted from across the border.
In a webinar organized here today by JK Unity Foundation (Association SEED) on the topic of drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir; Role and Responsibility of Civil Society, Team Jammu Chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal said that narco-terrorism is a major cause of concern not only for the government but the common citizens of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that six lakh drug abuse victims comprise almost 4 percent of the population and the more disturbing is that almost all the victims are in the age group of 20 to 35 years.
Zorawar Jamwal said that Team Jammu has been raising the awareness about drug abuse since last 7 years effectively and various rallies, seminars and involving local administration, stake holders and civil society has brought positive results but still lot needs to be done. He informed that Govt has set up Anti-Narcotics Task Force but rehabilitation centres at district level are the need of the need of the hour.
Ajaat Jamwal, President JK Unity Foundation said that Pakistan has been pumping in drugs and weapons in Jammu and Kashmir to fuel terrorism and unrest and target youth of JKUT to involve them in anti-national activities.
Both Chairman Team Jammu Zorawar Singh Jamwal and President JKUF Ajaat Jamwal stressed that rehabilitation Centres at district level should be built immediately as the spread of drug abuse is spreading in rural areas too. |
