Newly macadamized road fails to sustain for few weeks
1/22/2022 11:22:09 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

REASI, Jan 22: Within a month of its macadamization, the Dhyangarh to Dharan road in Arnas block of Reasi district has developed cracks at several places. The 4-kilometer long road has been constructed under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
A group of locals from the area told Early Times that within a month the road has developed cracks at many places while the black topping is coming out at several spots.
The locals alleged that the macadamization wasn't done properly as a result of which it started developing cracks.
A resident of Dharan said, “Had the macadamization been properly done the road wouldn't have wither away so rapidly. The asphalt has not been laid in a proper way. It has lost grip from the surface within a few weeks.”
The sub-standard material being used in the PMGSY projects often results into cracks or complete removal of the black topping of these roads within months after their completion, the locals said, adding that the black topping of the road stands completely removed at most of the spots.
Besides, the residents said the leveling of road en-route Dharan is also uneven as there is a stretch where the vehicles had to confront a steep ascent which makes travel risky.
The locals demanded immediate attention of the authorities and appealed to the DC Reasi to take stringent action against the contractor engaged for executing the road construction work.
