| Azad truly deserves such coveted recognition: Ch Manmohan | | | | JAMMU, Jan 28: Former Mayor Jammu and President All India Jat Maha Sabha Ch Manmohan Singh on Friday appreciated the BJP Government led by PM Narendra Modi for handpicking senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad for the prestigious Padma Bhushan Award claiming that the former J&K Chief Minister deserved this award more than anybody else. In a statement issued to media here today, the former Mayor said that Azad’s illustrious career as seasoned politician and a statesman of class was enough to conferred upon him the aforesaid award and those raising fingers against the government’s decision are doing the same due to jealousy against Azad as he has got the name and fame purely on merit. He said that magnanimity of Ghulam Nabi Azad is known to every single person living in the UT of J&K and elsewhere because he transformed the development profile of J&K during his tenure as Chief Minister of the erstwhile state. Ch Manmohan Singh said that the stature of Ghulam Nabi Azad is so tall that he used to be the cabinet minister in many governments headed by the Congress party in Centre. Azad is beyond any doubt a secular politician who always remained at a safe distance from controversies thus making him a true statesman and highly acclaimed political entity. Ch Manmohan Singh hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking the most appropriate decision in conferring the coveted Padma Award to Azad. He however came down heavily against party colleagues of Ghulam Nabi Azad for raising unnecessary controversy over the government bestowing him the much deserving award. |
