Early Times Report

Poonch, Jan 28: A poor man, whose 23-year old son suffered an electric shock while repairing a service in line in the district, has been left in lurch by the administration that had employed him for the job.
Mohammad Kabir father of Yasir Kabir, who runs a small hotel in Mandi area of Poonch town said, “We were called to the DC office Poonch and my son was engaged as a labourer to restore jumpers of the electric lines.”
“After restoring two jumpers, when he climbed on the electric pole to restore the third jumper, someone at the grid switched on the electricity following which Yasir suffered an electric shock and fell down.
We rushed him to District Hospital Poonch where doctors told us that he won’t survive. But we shifted him to PGI Chandigarh for the treatment,” Kabir said. He said that initially the district administration provided some financial assistance but after that officials refused to help. “I have to spend Rs 15000/ to Rs 20000/ per day for the treatment of my son. Labourers and others in our area have contributed whatever they could. I am a poor man and my son was my only support. He got injured while he was working for the government. The administration needs to help us so that his life can be saved,” Kabir said.
He said, “Deputy Commissioner Poonch had assured us that administration will bear all the expense for the treatment but now he is refusing to help. We didn’t expect DC Sahib to go back from his word. I appeal Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and order an enquiry into the entire matter.”
He expressed gratitude the people who have come forward to help him and urged common people to contribute to help him bear the expense being incurred on his son’s treatment at PGI Chandigarh. Anyone who wants to contribute can deposit money in account no. 0165040100099263.. IFSC code JAKAMANDIE. The account is in the name of Yasir Kabir.
