Manjit Singh warns NHAI against construction of Toll Plaza in Thandi Khui
1/28/2022 11:33:30 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

SAMBA, Jan 28: Apni Party Provincial President Jammu, Manjit Singh has warned NHAI against the construction of Toll Plaza on Jammu-Pathankot Highway at Thandi Khui in Samba District which will displace hundreds of people and uproot the business establishments.
Addressing a worker meeting at Vijaypur in Samba District, Manjit Singh strongly criticized BJP for its silence over the proposal to construct Toll Plaza at Thandi Khui which is a famous tourist spot on the Highway. He said that “Being out of power, the same BJP had opposed Toll Plaza on this Highway and now their silence has become a surprise despite knowing strong opposition by the people.”
He said that the people in Thandi Khui were allotted land by the Govt after they were displaced from Chhamb area. “These Displaced Persons were not given ownership rights on the land and hence, they may not be entitled to get compensation for the land which would be utilized in Toll Plaza construction,” he said and questioned the Govt for targeting the DPs.
He said that these DPs would lose their homes and commercial places due to the ill-planned Toll Plaza by NHAI and hence, the Govt must take a review of the situation and the super express should be constructed away from the residential areas via Nagrota.
“Constructing such a type of highway from the residential and commercial place will kill the business and the tourist spot which has been famous for decades,” he said.
He said that the people would become jobless and many may not be able to get land and construct their houses again.
“In the interest of the DPs and poor masses, the Govt must reconsider the decision and the BJP must be punished for its wrongdoing by putting the people in such an uncomfortable situation,” he added.
He said that “If it is necessary, the NHAI should plan the Toll Plaza Lakhanpur not in Samba district as it would be injustice with the people of this district.”
“BJP is working for the business class by punishing the poor for their gains as they are enjoying power. When they were out of power, they did not allow Toll Plaza and had promised that no such plaza would be constructed but the silence of their leaders’ show that they work for the influential businessmen,” he added.
He warned that if the decision is not reconsidered Apni Party would come on the roads in support of the people who have been rendered in hopelessness.
