‘Traders will meet admin and will oppose weekend restrictions this time’

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 1: Strongly criticising the unilateral decision of the Administration on imposition of weekend lockdown, the President of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu (JCCI) Arun Gupta alleged that said that the interests of distressed traders and retailers are being ignored with these illogical decisions by administration.
“The traders of Jammu have been suffering huge losses due to a bizarre weekend lockdown which was asked to be effective from Friday afternoon. The Chambers of Commerce and Industry Jammu and other traders’ associations were not taken into confidence or consulted before imposing lockdown order,” he alleged.
On being asked when restaurants in neighbouring states including Punjab, Himachal, Chandigarh, UP, Delhi remain open till 10 pm and there is no weekend lockdown but in Jammu it is 9 pm due to which employees working there are losing jobs due to distressed in this sector, Gupta expressed his concern and solidarity with the employees who have been losing jobs due to restrictions on guest entries and time in restaurants.
“I am surprised that there are many states where the positivity rate is above 20% and no weekend restrictions have been imposed but in Jammu despite below 5% positivity rate, strict restrictions including weekend lockdown have been imposed. The administration has been ignoring the interests of traders and retailers just to become number one in managing COVID pandemic,” he alleged further adding that not only this industry but other businesses are also facing losses due to weekend lockdown.
“We have decided to take up the matter with administration and other senior officials in the Government to impress upon them not to impose weekend lockdown so that businesses might not face depression,” he said.
