LeT militant arrested in north Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Feb 22: A Lashkar-e-Toiba militant was arrested in Kashmir on Tuesday, police said.
The militant, identified as Danish Ahmed Shah alias Haris, was arrested in north Kashmir's Bandipora district by joint forces at a mobile check point.
"At a joint naka at Aloosa (Bandipora), a suspicious individual was seen approaching. On being challenged, the individual tried to flee into the nearby orchards. He was chased by the joint party and tactfully apprehended," a statement by police said.
The militant was identified as Danish Shah, resident of Ellahipora Aloosa Bandipora.
"On search of the individual, one Chinese pistol and one grenade was recovered from his possession. During initial questioning, the person disclosed that he was working at the behest of LeT handlers Samama @ Ali and Hilal Malik (at present Pakistan) and the said arms and ammunition had been provided to him through Laskar conduits.
"The individual had been recruited as a hybrid terrorist by eliminated Lashkar terrorist Ashiq War and after the death of Ashiq in 2019, he was subsequently handled by terrorist Fayaz War," he added.
Police said that he was currently arranging travel documents to travel to Pakistan for seeking specialised arms and ammunition training.
"The individual is also suspected to be involved in assisting the recent attacks in Bandipora and it is currently a matter of investigation," the statement added. A case under relevant provisions of law has been registered in Police Station Bandipora and further investigation was underway.
Shah is the second militant arrested by forces in the last 24 hours. On Monday, a hybrid militant of Jaish-e-Mohammad was arrested in Handwara area of frontier Kupwara district.
