Another ‘mis-governance’ shocker as Ganderbal youth attempts self- immolation
2/23/2022 12:14:58 AM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Feb 22: With no let up in complaints of alleged mis-governance in Jammu and Kashmir, in the latest a youth set himself ablaze during demolition of an under-construction complex in the Ganderbal district.
To protest demolition of the commericial complex, the youth identified as Amir Ahmad Shah, son of Abul Hameed Shah of Harran sustained burn injuries after he set himself ablaze.
Officials said the injured youth was referred to SKIMS Soura here for treatment. Doctors said the wounded has received “serious burn injuries.” He has been hospitalized.
The incident drew severe criticism against the administration of Jammu and Kashmir. Observers said how come was the commercial construction allowed near Sindh nallah in the first instance and now it was being removed.
“The construction had been taking place for months and now the upper floor was being constructed. Why was the administration silent for all these months?” said one official on the condition of anonymity.
National Conference leader Sara Hayat took at a dig at the government. “Youth sets himself ablaze in Ganderbal during the demolition drive. This is what NAYA KASHMIR looks like. No jobs, no money, no future, hopelessness & pain. & why are the police watching like mute spectators, for heavens sake, this is not a movie/film! ZULM KI IN THE,” she alleged on the social media.
For the last few months the politicians have been accusing the civil administration of “misgovernance and bad governance in Jammu and Kashmir.” Some middle-rung officials told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity that there was “lack of coordination as some of the officials were calling the shots at the cost of their colleagues.”
A senior official while downplaying complaints said today’s issue was being looked into. He said the demolition drive was carried out by the Irrigation department.
