Poor man’s leg on verge of amputation after ‘medical negligence’ at GMC&H Jammu
Needs treatment to avoid amputation, appeals for donations

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Feb 27: Rohit Kumar, a poor labourer who resides at Gorkha Nagar in Bahu Fort area here, needs immediate and best treatment to avoid amputation of his right leg, which has developed a loss of sensation due to alleged medical negligence at Government Medical College (GMC) & Hospital, Jammu after a surgery done nearly four months ago.
Narrating his tale of woes, the unfortunate Rohit said that he met with a road accident in November last year and suffered serious injuries after which a surgery was performed on my leg; however, after the operation it became numb.
“There is no sensation or feeling in the leg after it was negligently operated by the doctors of GMC Jammu. Due to their carelessness I am unable to walk for the last four months, using a walker to move,” said Rohit.
“I again visited GMC Jammu for a checkup where the doctors told me that they can treat and give it a try but can’t give guarantee of its complete healing. Following this I went to Amritsar to seek medical advice for my treatment.
The doctors at Amandeep Hospital Amritsar told me that my leg can be treated without getting it amputated.
For such a specialized treatment I need lakhs of rupees but I am penniless,” he added.
Rohit appealed to the people to donate generously for his medical expenses which would enable him to get treated and give him another chance to fend his family on his own.
“I don’t have faith in doctors at GMC Jammu that’s why I want to get treated at Amritsar. I don’t want to ask for monetary help from others but only asking for financial assistance for my treatment as well as to avoid amputation of my leg so that I can again walk and could earn bread and butter for my family,” said Rohit.
It seems Rohit’s misfortunes are refusing to wither away as he is not only on the verge of losing his leg but also had lost his 11 month old son a few months ago while his old mother is a deaf and dumb.
Rohit’s wife Komal also urged the general public to donate generously for the better treatment of her husband.
Rohit’s family members along with a few social activists have appealed to the public to make their donations in Account Number: 0023040800001392 with IFSC Code: JAKAOCAMPUS.
