Former CM Omar Abdullah takes dig at extravagance in JK admin!
Brings to focus misuse of smart city money

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 9: With no let up in complaints of “extravagance” in the government in cash-starved Jammu and Kashmir, in the latest former Chief Minister and National Conference President Omar Abdullah has taken a dig at the government for alleged misuse of public money.
The former Chief Minister took to the social media to vent out his feelings on the issue of traffic mess in Srinagar.
“One of the biggest problems in Srinagar city these days is traffic management. I haven’t seen any meaningful steps being taken & no new infrastructure being invested in after the Rambagh flyover was completed. Painting pretty flyover pillars won’t solve the mess on our roads,” Omar said.
Its pertinent to mention that the National Conference government had initiated work on the last flyover constructed in Srinagar. The flyover was inaugurated in 2016.
Instead of upgradation of the infrastructure, the J&K government has been spending millions on to paint the pillars of the flyovers under the Smart City Project.
In some areas of Srinagar, even the macadamized roads were painted with pictures of cartoons only to draw public criticism.
The people have been accusing the government of misuse of public money on developments that won’t benefit the common man.
“Why does the pillar of a flyover need painting when the potholes are not being repaired? Why to paint macadamized roads, when this money can used on improvement of facilities like drainage infrastructure?” said a senior official. The government has also been accused of spending “big money” to host Bollywood guests in Jammu and Kashmir.
A senior official in the Civil Secretariat told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity that “the misuse of public money on extravagance which benefits a select group of babus on deputation has become the hallmark of governance in Jammu and Kashmir.”
“All what a nationalists like us expect is that the Modi government orders probe into the irregularities and other misadventures.”
