Harsh Dev Singh urges PM to clear liabilities under MGNREGA, PMGSY
3/12/2022 10:54:28 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 12: Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP today visited the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's office in New Delhi and filed a petition seeking personal indulgence of the PM so as to ensure early clearance of liabilities of poor labourers and farmers of J&K under MGNREGA and PMGSY.
The memorandum submitted by Singh stated that the work done claims of various Panchayats of J&K under MGNREGA had remained unpaid for the last 5-6 years resulting in untold hardships for the affected families. These liabilities amounting to several hundreds of crores and their non-clearance has adversely impacted upon the very survival of the poor people of rural areas who have rendered their services and incurred expenditure on execution of Panchayat level works.
"The J&K government has been dilly-dallying over the issue for the last few years resulting in massive resentment in the rural areas. It is further shocking to note unprecedented corruption prevalent in RDD which has led to collapse of several central govt schemes and other people oriented policies of the union government," reads the memorandum.
The memorandum stated that the poor farmers of J&K have been deprived of due compensation for the lands acquired from them for construction of rural roads under PMGSY. Not only the lands were acquired but the residential houses, standing crops, orchards and other structures falling on the alignment of the said roads were also destroyed due to the construction of the said roads.
"The owners thereof were assured of adequate compensation for the losses sustained by them besides payment of market value of the lands so acquired. The needful however has not been done and the poor, non-influential farmers continue to suffer for want of requisite relief and rehabilitation. There are instances particularly in Ghordi Block, Chenani Block, Latti Block, Seuna Block, Ramnagar Block, Dudu-Basantgarh Block of Udhampur district where the compensation to the affected farmers remains unpaid for the last 7-8 years which has brought several affected families on the brink of starvation". Singh appealed to the PM to ensure time bound clearance of the pending claims of the poor labourers and farmers of J&K in view of their neglect and deprivation by the present UT administration.
