Stop Ignoring Youth
3/15/2022 11:27:18 PM

After job aspirants, the students too are staging protests against what they term as “anti-youth” decisions of the present J&K dispensation. On Monday scores of Jammu University students took to the streets and staged a massive protest against the recent government decisions to promote ReT teachers as general line teachers, masters to be promoted as lecturers and appointments within the SCERT to be made in house.
They stated that these decisions have left no scope for new recruitments. If the same trend continues the time would come when the students having completed their M.Phil and PhD degrees will be left with nothing to do. In fact they won’t be left with any posts to apply for in the Education Department.
The students have raised a valid point. If the staff members within the department are promoted and absorbed, where will the fresh degree holders stand? The decisions taken by the helmsmen during the past few months have brought youth from different streams on the streets. The border battalion aspirants staged protests against the government’s decision to re-advertise the posts, hundreds of job aspirants whose posts were withdrawn suddenly came out on roads. The dental surgeons too have hogged the headlines for staging demonstrations. The youth have been at loggerheads with the government as they feel betrayed and let down. They don’t know whom to approach and what to say.
When the J&K’s special status was revoked the youth were promised new avenues and opportunities but the decisions that have been taken during the past two years have dashed the hopes of youngsters. They are hoping that something good will happen but nothing seems to be happening. The business community too has been stating that decisions taken by the present dispensation have hurt them. Many Jammu based business organizations have laid off their staff and have curtailed their operations due to these units not making enough profits. The million dollar question which the helmsmen need to answer is that why is everyone complaining. No one from students to businessmen seems content. Why is there so much disappointment everywhere. People handling the J&K affairs need to reach out to people, especially the youth, to understand the ground situation. A common man cannot be ignored for a long time in a democratic country like India.
