Pvt schools continue to dictate terms
3/31/2022 11:21:16 PM
The government led by Aam Admi Party (AAP) in Punjab has directed the private schools not to hike the fee. It has also asked the managements of these institutions not to force students to buy the books, stationery and uniforms from specified shops.
But in Jammu and Kashmir private schools continue to dictate terms. Managements compel them to buy books along with stationeries and uniforms from the school counters or shops. These are no compelling reasons and can be easily done away with. The Directors of School Education Kashmir and Jammu has warned all private recognised schools with de-recognition and withdrawal of NOC for compelling parents to purchase books or uniforms from any particular shop. But these orders remained confined to papers only.
The Punjab Chief Minister has led from the front by sending a direct message to the private school owners not to hike the fee and don’t compel parents to buy books from a particular shop.
It seems that the private schools consider themselves above the law that’s why the managements of these institutions don’t follow the instructions that are passed to them.
The J&K administration should take a cue from Punjab Government and send a tough message to the private schools. These institutions need to be made accessible for the children of poor people also.
The exercise of replacing existing books with the new ones by recognised unaided private schools needs to be looked into. The Directorates of School Education, Jammu and Kashmir should establish their writ to ensure that parents are not blackmailed and children don’t suffer due to the irrational and illogical dictates of the managements of private school owners.
The Education Department in J&K should constitute special monitoring teams to verify the complaints received on account of sale of books or uniforms by the private Schools, pressing parents for purchase from any particular shop and replacing existing books with the new ones thus adding more burden on the parents.
The committee should also monitor that these schools don’t loot the parents on the name of annual and printing charges. The J&K Government needs to implement its orders in letter and spirit. Only publicity won’t help.
