Katra traders resent decision to prohibit traffic movement on Ban Ganga road
4/3/2022 11:21:08 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

KATRA, Apr 3: To lodge their resentment against the local administration for prohibiting vehicular movement on Ban Ganga road, the trading fraternity having business establishments near Chintamani area took out a protest march here today.
It is pertinent to mention here that the administration had recently ordered that no vehicle except three wheelers will be allowed to ply on Ban Ganga road.
The decision of the authorities has irked the traders operating along Katra-Ban Ganga road as well as those having their establishments in Chintamani area.
The agitated businessmen raising anti-establishment slogans said that such a unilateral decision taken by the administration has hit their businesses hard.
“Not allowing private vehicles of the pilgrims, those owned by the locals and other commercial vehicles on Ban Ganga road has badly affected our businesses. The arbitrary decision of the administration would ruin our business completely,” they said.
Protesting traders and hoteliers further said that they have already suffered huge losses over the last two years due to Covid pandemic and frequent lockdowns.
“Last two years were like hell for all of us. We are yet to recover from the losses we incurred due to pandemic and lockdowns. This Navratra festival after the dark phase had raised some hopes for the trading community but such an illogical step of the administration has dashed all our hopes. Our businesses will collapse under such circumstances,” they said.
The irate shopkeepers and hoteliers said that they have been left with no other option but to take the course of protest demonstration in order to highlight their plight before the unconcerned administration.
The protesters, who were led by the president of Municipal Committee Katra, few councilors as well as leaders cutting across party lines demanded that the vehicular movement on Ban Ganga road should be allowed at the earliest so as to provide a sigh of relief to the trading community who need unflinching support from the administration to hit the path of recovery.
