Early Times Report

Doda, Apr 11: Residents of Tanata Kahara staged a protest outside the office of Deputy Commissioner Doda against the failure of the government to provide their village with the electricity. Protesters while talking to reporters said, “We are living in a stone age. Nearly 99% of the people in our area are illiterates as the government has failed to illuminate our area. In absence of electricity children are unable to carry forward their studies.” A youth, who is pursuing his Post Graduation from Jammu University, said, “Had I stayed in my village I would not have been able to do PG. I left my house to pursue studies in Jammu.” He said, “I had met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and had presented a memorandum to him to seek electrification of our area. LG Sinha had passed the orders to electrify our village. The officials after providing electricity to twenty houses in the area announced that the Tanata Kahara area has been electrified. It was a false propaganda carried out to mislead LG Sinha.”
Protesters said, “The people whom we voted for just made hollow promises. After winning the elections they turned their backs towards us and left us in lurch.”
They urged LG Sinha to intervene and pull up the officers who misled him. “LG Sahib needs to intervene so that our area gets electricity and our children get a chance to study,” they added.
