Frequent power cuts leave consumers angry
4/23/2022 12:03:03 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Apr 22: People in Jammu are witnessing an unprecedented power crisis for the last three-four days. People are suffering badly due to frequent power cuts in the city localities forcing them to remain awake throughout the night.
The power cuts during the evening for a couple of hours are normal phenomena. But frequent power cuts throughout the night are forcing the residents to wait endlessly for resumption of power supply, which as and when gets restored remains only for a few hours.
People are grappling with the numerous problems due to the unscheduled power breakdowns every now and then.
"We could not sleep for the entire night and waited till 4 in the morning with a hope to get power. But it did not resume till 1:30 in the afternoon," said an old woman.
The high temperature in the city is making the residents restless. Power crisis is also affecting the water supply. Water boring pumps hardly worked due to frequent power cuts. "The inverters too stopped working. Mobiles were discharged, life going totally haywire," said another resident.
Students preparing for their boards exams are facing a tough time due to frequent power cuts in the city localities.
Most of the students are preparing for their board exams but the frequent power cuts during nights are hindering their studies.
The Business community in different areas of the city is also irked at the attitude of the Power Development Department.
“Our trade is getting adversely affected. We are suffering economically due to frequent electricity cuts,” said a trader.
He said that the administration has failed to stick with its own power curtailment schedule and ironically the department has failed to give any reasonable explanation for ongoing power cuts across Jammu city.
People have demanded regular supply of electricity in their areas or else they would start a protest against the department concerned.
